Princess’s Rescues and Retreat is a nonprofit dog shelter.
We started Princess’s Rescues in early 2023 after going to the pound and see how many dogs were there and were going to be euthanized to make more space. We learned how Arizona was one of the top states for stray dogs. It broke our hearts seeing all these dogs lonely in kennels all cramped up. So we started our mission to create a shelter where these sweetly loving animals can feel safe until they find a forever home.
We rescue all dogs no matter the age or breed. We take in surrenders, abandoned animals, strays and work with huge shelters (like Maricopa County) to take in their overflow. We take in the abused and aggressive animals and find them their furever home. We fix, vaccinate and chip all dogs who come into our care.
We do not have a facility yet. We are running off of good people who foster for us. Although we are still a newer shelter we hope that we create a huge impact in saving as many fur babies as possible.
Our mission is to help lower the euthanasia rate in Arizona by help overpopulated dog shelters. We want to be able to take in the dogs that are scheduled to be euthanized and find them their furever homes. We also want to lower the rate of stray dogs in Arizona by helping clear out other big shelters like Maricopa County Animal Care and Control so they can make more room for these strays.
Hi my name is Elizabeth Stoltz. I started Princess’s Rescues and Retreat when I was 16 years old. I’ve always had a passion and love for animals. My family adopted our first dog when I was 4 years old. She was a 4 month old husky who we named Princess. Now this was our first time ever adopting a dog and we ended up buying her from the mall. 6 months later Princess was diagnosed with a parasite called giardia. Giardia is a parasite that lives in the intestines. It can be very fatal in puppies like Princess. When we contacted the place we had gotten her from they said to return her so they can euthanize her and we could have a new dog. We refused and decided to pay for Princess’s treatment ourselves. Princess’s lived for 13 wonderful years. She was the best dog ever. She was a sassy girl who loved all and took care of every animal we adopted or fostered. When Princess’s passed away, October 11th, 2023, I was heart broken. We had 5 other dogs at the time who all got very depressed after her death. I was on Instagram one day when I saw a post from Maricopa County Animal Care and Control about a husky who was up for adoption. She looked exactly like Princess. We went to go meet her we saw so many dogs at there shelter. I felt so sad for these animals and wanted to help so bad. I had always dreamed since I was little to start my own dog shelter so I decided to make my dream come true. I started out by baking dog treats and selling them at markets to raise money to buy a 501c3 to become a legal none profit. Then I got fosters and started taking in surrenders. After that we just kept growing. We hope to grow even more and help as many animals as possible.
